Student Health Insurance
Requirements for Students
All traditional undergraduate students (in-person classes at the main campus) are required to have health insurance while a student at Indiana Tech.
Athletes (both traditional undergraduate and online, including Graduates) are required to have health insurance and show proof of health insurance to the athletic trainers annually before participation in team practices or games.
Indiana Tech Online Students (Undergraduate and Graduate) who are not athletes are encouraged, but not required, to have health insurance while a student. CPS students (UG/GR, face to face or online) are not eligible for the Indiana Tech student insurance plan.
Domestic Students (not international)
Domestic Students have three insurance options available.
Insurance coverage through parents or work
- The insurance MUST provide coverage in the area of the Fort Wayne campus to meet Indiana Tech requirements. (Note, some out-of-state plans do not provide coverage in Indiana).
- Something to think about: the school plan may be less expensive than a family plan. Consider comparing them before making your decision.
Indiana Tech Student Health Insurance – United Healthcare
- Only traditional students are eligible for this plan. Online-only students are not eligible to enroll.
- Insurance coverage is from August 1st through July 31st (full 12 months). Pro-rating for a different period is not available.
- To select this plan, check “YES” to enroll in the student health insurance on my.indianatech.edu. Contact the Business Office / Student Financial Services for assistance with this. This is billed through Indiana Tech.
- If no selection is noted in my.indianatech.edu, all students will be enrolled in this plan automatically. Students who are enrolling in a different plan MUST note this in my.indianatech.edu before the deadline (this will be emailed).
- Enrollments will not be cancelled / refunded.
Healthy Indiana Plan / Insurance Marketplace
- If you choose to enroll through the Marketplace, this must be completed by August 15, 2023 for calendar year 2024. You may be eligible to enroll for the remainder of 2023 depending on your situation.
- Note that these enrollment and coverage periods differ from the student plan. Students are required to have health insurance in place for the entire school year.
- Contact Affiliated Service Providers of Indiana (ASPIN) for information or assistance enrolling in these plans.
International Students
International Students have three insurance options available:
International Student Health Insurance – Student Health Advantage
- Either the Standard Plan or Platinum Plan will meet Indiana Tech requirements
- This plan covers athletic injuries. Athletes are recommended to select this plan.
- To select this plan, students must enroll directly with the company. This cannot be billed through the school.
ISOInsurance
- ISO Secure plan meets Indiana Tech requirements.
- This plan does not cover athletic injuries. Athletes may not select this plan.
- To select this plan, students must enroll directly with the company. This cannot be billed through the school.
Indiana Tech Student Health Insurance – United Healthcare
- This is an additional option for international undergraduates on campus.
- Note that this plan does not cover athletic injuries. It is an option for athletes, but the Student Health Advantage plan is recommended (see above).
Enrollments will not be cancelled / refunded after the first week of school.
OPT / Graduate International Students
ISO Insurance
- Enrollment is encouraged for any students without other health insurance.
- ISO has several plans available for graduate students. Any plan that students are eligible for may be selected, since this is not a requirement.
- EXCEPTION: Graduate students who are athletes are required to have health insurance. Please see the International Students section above.
